The aim of the project was to improve the dignity and management of patients with faecal incontinence within a stroke service in London. It was anticipated that by developing an understanding of the contributing factors these would be used to inform developments in practice. An audit of case records, patient stories and a nursing staff questionnaire were used to gather evidence to inform this understanding. The project has seen the introduction of nursing ward rounds and the inclusion of nurses in the traditionally therapy led, multidisciplinary goal setting meetings held within the service.
This project was supported by the Foundation of Nursing Studies Patients First Programme in partnership with the Burdett Trust for Nursing.
