Funding for two patient safety research centres announced

The Government has announced that two research centres (Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and NHS Greater Manchester) will receive a share of over £13 million funding from the National Institute for Health Research, to advance and refine new ways of improving safety in hospitals, GP surgeries and in the community. Examples of projects that will be carried out at the centres include a new ‘medication passport’, which will be carried by a patient or carer as they move through different care settings in the NHS. It is hoped that this will help eliminate communication breakdowns and reduce prescribing errors.
