Ethical and methodological issues arising from qualitative research in Finland exploring the experiences of newly-diagnosed dementia sufferers and their families. The role of the researcher in assessing the possible harm of involving these participants in research interviews, obtaining their consent, and conducting the interviews is discussed with reference to the ethical principles of beneficence, autonomy and justice.
