Overcoming barriers: access to research information
This RIN report finds that many researchers are encountering difficulties in getting access to the content they need and that this is having a significant impact on their research.
Based on the findings of five studies, the report investigates the nature and scale of key restrictions on access to information resources of importance to researchers; the impact of these restrictions and the ways in which they might be alleviated or overcome.
The Department of Health has published 'New Education Bodies Created to Promote Innovation in the NHS'. New bodies that combine the expertise of industry, health and education have been formed to promote innovation in the NHS. Health Innovation and Education Clusters (HIECs) are cross sector partnerships between NHS organisations, the Higher Education sector and blue chip companies such as BMW, GlaxoSmithKline and BT. Through joint working HIECs will provide professional education and training and promote innovation in healthcare by speeding up the adoption of research. Over £11 million will be given to the 17 successful applicants that were chosen by an Independent Award Panel.

The purpose of this study was to describe the extent to which nurse researchers who conduct RCTs state that they have used ITT, the extent to which they adhere to ITT principles, and the methods they use to handle missing data. Data regarding ITT analysis, participant flow, rates of attrition, and methods of handling missing data were extracted and coded from a consecutive sample of 124 RCTs published in 16 nursing journals in 2007 and 2008.
